The Baroness's Enduring Legacy

Nestled majestically atop the Cap Ferrat peninsula, the Ephrussi de Rothschild villa, also known as the Île-de-France villa, stands as a captivating testament to opulence and artistic flair. Constructed between 1905 and 1912 by the visionary Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild (1864-1934), this palatial residence exquisitely mirrors the grandeur of Renaissance-style architecture.

Upon her passing in 1934, Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild left an enduring legacy by bequeathing her villa to a foundation that bore her name. This marked the inception of a museum, unlocking the doors to the public on April 2, 1938 (or 1937 as noted by Corcuera, op. cit., p. 151). However, the onset of World War II forced a temporary closure, casting a shadow over its nascent years. Despite the challenges, the museum's allure remained a well-kept secret until 1960, when a change in curatorship brought it into the limelight, drawing approximately 60,000 visitors annually.

“Words cannot describe how happy we were to choose Romain for our wedding photography and the job he did was absolutely incredible! The photos were absolutely stunning but above all we were so happy with his presence and direction on the day, ensuring everyone knew what to do and that we got fantastic photos of everyone. He does stunning shots without staging or posing and we love his style of including many spontaneous shots and capturing little moments. I recommend him from the bottom of my heart, you will”
